Benjamin Brew Sam-Paintsil is a Ph.D. candidate who joined the Department of Communication Studies in Fall 2023. Before joining the department, he completed his master's in Communication at Illinois State University where he worked on his thesis titled, "Memorable Health Messages and Their Influence on Health Behavior." During his master's, he received a Top-student paper award and an Outstanding Service award at the 2023 Central State Communication Association (CSCA) conference held in St. Louis, Missouri. He also volunteered as a tutor at Kingsley Junior High School in Normal, Illinois.

Through his PhD journey, he has co-authored two research papers and one book chapter which are under review for publication. His research interest focuses on health disparities and health campaigns/intervention, and health messaging. He is specifically in how health campaigns could be used to inform actionable solutions in addressing health challenges among underserved and underprivileged populations.
